What's a gardener-minded editor?

Most editors are florists, not gardeners, to their authors. A florist does beautiful work; they clip and arrange flowers into bouquets that will look stunning on a table. But then the bouquet wilts, and the client will have to go back to the florist for a new bouquet.

.

But a gardener is thinking to the future seasons ahead. A gardener plants, nourishes, and prunes their flora so the beautiful landscape comes back season after season.

Gardener-minded editors don’t want to just polish what their authors give them—they want to equip their clients to be stronger writers, more profitable authors, and thriving members of the writing community.

founder of Rooted in Writing

Hey there, I'm Amber Helt. I'm the senior editor and owner of Rooted in Writing, an editing boutique for speculative fiction authors. I also offer professional mentorship and coaching to fellow editors looking to build or strengthen their businesses, focusing on system processes, admin organization, and client document set up. As an extrovert working from home, I love connecting with my editor family and chatting about editing and entrepreneurship.
